Mandatory Internship During My Academic Career

Because there is nothing better than putting into practice what you learn during your studies, our teams are always happy to welcome you during your academic internships.

Internship Objectives

  • Offering you a unique opportunity to discover and take part in the veterinary reality in general practice, by working closely with a mentor who shares your fields of interest in an emergency and referral centre or in a general practice hospital.
  • Becoming familiar with an exemplary practice of veterinary medicine in a general practice hospital offering quality medicine and care, based on teamwork and respect for the client.
  • Enabling you to work with a unique veterinary team where mutual support, knowledge sharing and the quality of life of our veterinarians take precedence.

During Your Internship

  • You are paired with a mentor veterinarian who will guide you and help you achieve your goals.
  • You will be encouraged to actively participate in all aspects of the work of the veterinary team (consultations, physical exams, blood tests, procedures, surgeries, etc.).
  • Your internship will take into account the needs of your academic training.

Paid Internship in General Practice

Do you want to work during the summer to put into practice what you learned during your first years in veterinary medicine? Our paid internship gives you access to a summer job in addition to having a mentor who accompanies you throughout the summer.

A bit of information about our program:

  • It is offered in several establishments of our group.
  • It allows you to gain experience while being immersed in the work of veterinarians.
  • It is open to 3rd and 4th year students of veterinary medicine.
  • The duration of the internship:
    • Flexible according to your availability;
    • Can extend from 8 to 12 weeks during the summer.
  • This is a paid internship, with an average of 35 hours/week.

You will be exposed to the various services offered according to your areas of interest:

  • Preventive medicine
  • General medicine
  • Emergency medicine
  • Medicine for exotic animals
  • Case follow-up and hospitalization
  • Routine surgery
  • Emergency surgery
  • Ultrasound
  • Endoscopy
  • Dentistry

  • You will be asked to prepare and present a clinical case during rounds with all trainees and veterinary colleagues.

Process

  • Our internship programs are presented to faculty students in February of each year;
  • An invitation to participate in our meeting is made in partnership with the AEMVQ;
  • An internship form must be completed;
  • Our team will review your request and may invite you to a virtual meeting to validate your interests (hospital, fields of interest and internship dates);

  • You will be encouraged to actively participate in all aspects of the work of the technical team (consultations, examinations, procedures, surgeries, client communication, etc.).
  • Your internship will take into account the needs of your academic training.

Paid Internship in General Practice

  • This internship allows you to gain practical experience by being immersed in the work of technicians in our hospitals.
  • It is open to 1st and 2nd year students in animal health studies.
  • The duration of the internship:
  • flexible according to the student’s availability
  • can extend from 6 to 12 weeks during the summer
  • This is a paid internship, with an average of 35 hours/week

You will be exposed to the various services offered according to your areas of interest:

Internship in Emergency and Reference Centre

Ready to discover the reality of an emergency centre with a team of experienced technicians and veterinarians? You don’t like routine and you want to work where patients come and go, but are never the same?

Our animal health technician internship program is your chance to develop and put into practice everything you learned during your training!

Come reinforce your skills! We are on a mission to provide the best possible veterinary care.

We are more than 50 animal health technicians who work in collaboration with more than 25 veterinarians and specialists.

The theoretical and technical skills of our TSA team allow us to provide state-of-the-art veterinary medicine and offer high-level training for future animal health technicians.

During his/her internship, the animal health technician will have the chance to develop, but especially to put into practice the elements learned during his/her college training in order to prepare for certification.

The duration of the internship is 26 weeks, which are spread over our different departments:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Specialized surgery
  • General surgery
  • Dermatology
  • Internal medicine
  • Medicine for birds and exotic animals
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Neurology
  • Emergency and intensive care

 Admission requirement:

  • You must have an animal health technician diploma
